Affirmations are an incredible tool for rewiring your own subconscious mind!
They can help you to install new beliefs and attract new ideas and thoughts that are more in line with the dream life you would like to attract. If you want to own a dream home, dream car, travel the world, or simply want more health and happiness in your life, affirmations can help you achieve those goals.
So what exactly is an affirmation?
Affirmations are simply short, empowering statements that you say to yourself (either out loud or silently) with the goal of eliminating limiting beliefs and replacing them with new, more helpful ones.
When this simple, yet very powerful tool is used correctly, it can help you:
Affirmations can help you to manifest more of what you want in your life such as health, wealth and happiness.
Let's just take one moment to think about that...
Just by taking a few minutes each day to say a few affirmations, you can create your ultimate dream life for yourself. You can be living in your dream home, driving that dream car and living the life you really want!
Affirmations really do work... but only when done correctly!
If you have tried affirmations before but they haven't worked, please do not be put off; affirmations DO work, it is just that most people don't take the time to learn how to do them correctly, or they give up before the affirmations have time to work. But do not worry, because if you follow everything I tell you about affirmations on this page, you will be able to do them perfectly and start manifesting your dream life today!
You are already using affirmations every day!
Firstly you need to realise that you are probably already using affirmations every day without even realising it! Unfortunately, the ones most people use unconsciously are not always positive affirmations, so not only will they not help you but they actually make your life worse.
For example; when you make a mistake and you tell yourself off for being stupid, you are affirming that you are stupid. If you was to make a habit of doing this, you would eventually believe you are stupid and act as if you really are.
On the other hand, if you make a habit of telling yourself positive affirmations, you will eventually believe positive things about yourself instead, and these positive beliefs will become part of your reality. It is really that simple!
Affirmations can backfire if not performed correctly.
But remember, if you do not do your affirmations correctly then not only will they not work, but worse than that, they can backfire and create the opposite of what you want.
Don't worry, the rules are all very simple and require minimal effort, but do not underestimate the importance of any of them.
If you are serious about using the power of affirmation to manifest your dream life, then take the time to get your affirmations right and you will find thy will work quickly and easily for you.
So, let's break it down and take a look at how to perform affirmations the CORRECT way:
Let's embark on a positive journey!
Picture this: envision a serene landscape where vibrant colours dance in the sunlight, where your aspirations take shape with every passing moment.
Now, imagine a lush, verdant meadow where thoughts blossom into reality, where the mere mention of an elephant doesn't conjure its majestic form before you.
But wait, what just happened?
Despite our best efforts, the elephant still lingered in the recesses of our mind.
It's a fascinating insight into how our psyche operates. Our minds, you see, don't readily grasp the concept of negation. In urging ourselves not to think of something, we inadvertently summon it forth.
This understanding is paramount, especially when crafting affirmations. Imagine if, instead of focusing on what we desire, we inadvertently reinforce what we seek to avoid.
If we repeatedly tell ourselves not to dwell in poverty or mediocrity, what message are we truly sending? By fixating on what we wish to discard, we unwittingly affirm its presence in our lives.
So, let's recalibrate our approach. Let's banish the 'dont's', 'wont's', 'not's', 'never's', and 'no's' from our affirmations. Instead, let's embrace the positive, conjuring images of abundance, success, and fulfillment. In this landscape of affirmation, where every thought blooms into possibility, we sculpt our reality with intention and purpose.
By harnessing the power of positive thinking, we pave the way for a life brimming with the riches of our deepest desires.
You must always use the present tense when saying affirmations because, to your mind, tomorrow will never come!
To your subconscious mind, it can never be tomorrow because when tomorrow gets here it will become the new "today". If you affirm to yourself that tomorrow will be a great day, or next year I will be rich, then your subconscious mind interprets it that you always want those things to be held at a distance (in time) from where you are.
NOT saying your affirmations in the present tense is kind of like dangling the carrot on a stick in front of a donkey; he never reaches the stick... and you never reach your goals!
Instead, use the present tense when saying your affirmations. Start with words such as "I am..." or, "My...". For example you could say, "I am so incredibly happy", or "My life is so amazing!". This way your affirmations are not interpreted by the subconscious mind as something that is out of reach, but instead as something that is already part of your reality!
"I AM - two of the most powerful words: for what you put after them shapes your reality." - Bruce Lee
Don't just repeat words like a parrot!
You must add emotion and feelings to your affirmations or there is zero point in you doing them!
The subconscious mind cannot understand words. Your mind thinks in pictures and understands the emotion and feelings that the words give. So for your affirmations to work, you must feel how you would feel if you already had what you desire.
The best way to do this is to make your affirmations super exciting, and then engage your imagination whilst saying them. Imagine you already have what you desire. Use all of your senses as much as possible to really magnify your thoughts.
The way I do this is to start with a really clear, detailed visualization of what it is that I want to manifest. Spend as much time as you can thinking about this, and do it at least once a day. You and then shorten this into a short, concise affirmation afterwards. With a visualization you can really get into the feelings and emotions of your desire. Don't forget to use all your senses!
Here is my visualization for my dream home as an example:
I absolutely adore our stunning dream home! It fills me with so much happiness and gratitude every time I walk around, taking in all the lavish details.
The feel of the cool marble beneath my feet, the scent of fresh flowers on the table, and the sound of kids laughing outside just warms my heart.
Looking out through those huge glass windows and seeing the kids splashing around in the pool—it's like a scene from a movie! And when my partner wraps their arms around me, it's like everything is just perfect.
We stand there together, gazing out at the ocean view, surrounded by palm trees swaying gently in the breeze. It's so serene and beautiful, it takes my breath away every time.
And with the music playing softly in the background, the sound of champagne popping, and the clinking of glasses, it feels like we're in our own little paradise.
Surrounded by friends and family, laughing and chatting, we're just so grateful for this incredible life we have together.
Notice how I used lots of descriptive words that made it easy for me to visualize in my minds eye. I brought it to life by using all of my senses and I could really feel what it would be like already living in my dream home.
I now have a clear image in my mind of what I want to manifest and I can shorten the above visualization to a short concise phrase which will be my affirmation. My affirmation could be,
"I am so happy and grateful that I am living my dream life, in my perfect home with such incredible abundance and beauty!"
For me, this summarizes everything from my visualization and I can draw on the same emotions that I felt when doing my visualization.
So, don't be afraid to use your imagination and really get into your affirmations. The more you do this, the more powerful your affirmations will be and therefore the quicker your affirmations will manifest into reality.
Your subconscious mind is most receptive to affirmations when you are feeling relaxed or, more specifically, when your mind is in a state known as the alpha state.
Just like how hypnosis works, when your mind is focused and relaxed, the critical mind (conscious mind) is quiet and is less likely to question or judge the new ideas you want to suggest with affirmations. With this "critical factor" out of the way, the affirmations are able to sink deeper into our subconscious, without you unwilling sabotaging your hard work with any doubts or worries.
Now, you could put yourself into the alpha state by relaxing, taking a bath, going for a nice walk, practicing yoga, meditation etc, but there is an easier way that is extremely effective...
Because there are two times, every single day that you are guaranteed to be in the alpha state -
This is because, your mind has to go through a series of stages to take it from wide awake to fast asleep. Your brain waves will go from Beta (wide awake) to Alpha (relaxed) then to Theta (deep relaxation) and then finally to Delta (deep sleep). And then the reverse will happen every morning when you wake up.
So twice a day you can be certain that your brain will be in the alpha state, the state which is prime time for your affirmations to be most effective.
So use these times to your advantage and always say your affirmations every night, just before you are ready for sleep and then again first thing every morning.
Feel free to add in any extras during the day if you find yourself feeling particularly relaxed. The more the better, which brings me on to my next point...
For any new idea or belief to be accepted into the subconscious mind, it needs to be repeated often until it becomes the dominant belief. The more times your subconscious mind hears something, the more likely it is that it will accept it.
Let's look at an example:
If someone told you that an alien spacecraft had landed in London, you would probably assume they were just joking with you. But what if, throughout your day, you heard multiple people saying the same thing? You would very quickly start to wonder if there may be some truth to the matter and at some point you would probably turn on the news to try to figure out what was going on!
The first time we hear something new, especially if it conflicts with beliefs we already have, we will usually ignore the information. It is only when something is told to us repeatedly that we begin to believe and then accept the new idea.
This is actually a good thing because if we believed everything we heard then we would be very gullible indeed!
This is the same when planting new ideas using affirmations; at first your subconscious mind may not believe what you are saying, especially if you have been holding onto limiting beliefs for a long time. But if you repeat your affirmations over and over, then eventually your subconscious mind will begin to accept what you are saying as the new dominant belief.
This tendency to believe information after repeated exposure is scientifically known as the Illusory Truth effect. It is super interesting because it means we are capable of manipulating our minds to believe any affirmation we like, if when we are aware that the affirmation is initially a lie. So, use this effect to your advantage and repeat, repeat, repeat those affirmations until they become your dominant belief and watch your subconscious bring that affirmation into reality!
Every time you perform your affirmations, repeat each sentence at least 3 times and remember to do them every morning, every night and any other time you feel relaxed...
For AT LEAST 21 days.
21 days is the length of time it takes for the subconscious to accept a new idea, so make sure you persist with any new affirmation for at least this amount of time.
Remember, the more persistent you are, the faster changes within your subconscious mind will change, and the faster your dream life will begin to materialise!
Gratitude is the power behind affirmations.
An attitude of gratitude is what makes the difference between saying affirmations that really work and saying affirmations that are just hollow words.
Let me explain how.
Let's say that my affirmation is, "I am so happy for all the wealth and abundance in my life!"
Now let's imagine that I have been doing everything right; I have been saying this affirmation every morning and night for a month and I have been putting as much energy and feeling into this affirmation as I can but...
Nothing has changed. But why not?
Well the answer is simple. I must have another belief (in this case that I don't have enough money) that is stronger than my new idea I am trying to convince myself of (being wealthy and abundant).
This is a common problem. After all, I may have had this limiting belief all my life without even realising it but, only in the last 21 days I have been telling myself I am wealthy! If the new belief has not been accepted then clearly I have not been successful at convincing my subconscious mind that I am now wealthy.
In essence, my subconscious detected I was lying and refused to change.
So how do you overcome a block like this? Well that is where gratitude comes in to play!
Using gratitude I can show my subconscious mind PROOF that I really am living a wealthy, abundant life and force it to accept my new belief, which, in turn will make wealth my new reality.
BUT... I hear you cry!... How can I show it I am already wealthy if I am not?
Easy. Just look around you every day for ANYTHING that is abundant and FEEL GRATITUDE for it.
It can literally be anything from the air that you breathe to the leaves on the trees! When you start looking for things to be grateful for, you will see things everywhere and very quickly you will begin to convince your subconscious mind you are telling it the truth.
Here are some examples of abundance in everyday life... bear in mind that, although many of them may seem trivial to you, many people would feel extremely privileged to have access to such things. We have just become so used to them that we forget how lucky we really are...
These are just a few examples to show you that it doesn't need to be anything particularly expensive, you should be able to find plenty of things to feel grateful for no matter who or where you are if you look hard enough.
After saying your affirmations morning and night and then spending your days looking for reasons to prove to your subconscious mind that they are true, your mind will begin to accept what you are saying. You will begin to think how a wealthy person thinks, make decisions that a wealthy person would take and take the actions of a wealthy person and, eventually, you would find that you really do begin to live the wealthy, abundant life of your dreams.
You need to be on the look out for thoughts you may have that contradict the affirmation you are working with.
If you say your positive affirmations 3x every morning and night but then spend the day saying things that contradict them, then how can you expect them to work?
For example, if my affirmation is to become wealthy but I am later on complaining that I don't have enough money for something, then I am contradicting my affirmation and it becomes worthless.
Whenever you notice yourself saying something that contradicts what you want to be true then quickly replace your last thought with a positive thought.
For example, if I found myself complaining about being broke I would then tell myself I am so happy to so rich and wealthy.
Make sure you repeat the positive one more times and with more emotion than the negative one and you will overrule the negativity.
When you first start monitoring your thoughts like this, you may be surprised at how much negativity you were unconsciously affirming to yourself! Don't worry, now you being more aware of your thoughts you will quickly be able to get into the habit of affirming much more positive thoughts and soon start to see BIG changes!
So, now you know the best ways to use positive affirmations to manifest your dream life. Let us just take a look at everything we have learned so far and then we can put it all together to create some perfect affirmations.
Now let's put everything we have learned together and create some perfect affirmations for manifesting your dream life.
Firstly, you must bear in mind that what is perfect for one person may not be so for yourself. Only YOU know exactly what it is in life that you want. So do some visualisations of your dream life and really get to know exactly what your dream life looks like. Once you have done that you can come up with your own, perfect affirmation. Just remember to only try one at a time and don't give up for at least 21 days.
Having said that, I believe that underneath all the stuff that we think we want, deep down we all really want the same thing... to be happy! So here are some super powerful affirmations that you can use... feel free to use your own instead or alter these how you like to make them feel right for you!
For some more great affirmations I have create this tool for you that will randomly generate affirmations based on your desires.
So, decide what you want, visualise your dreams, affirm them every morning and night using positive, emotive words in the present tense and stick at it for at least 21 days per affirmation. Make sure you are not contradicting your positive affirmations with negative ones and never forget to be grateful for everything you already have!
It may seem life a lot to remember but all in all your affirmations will only take a few minutes each day which is very little effort for something that can completely transform your life.
And remember... your dream is a vision waiting to be brought into reality. It is up to YOU to manifest it! Manifesting your dreams is your purpose in life... so start now!
